in volunteering with VASOC?
The Court Accompaniment Program is currently recruiting volunteers for the upcoming Spring 2008 training. The first part of the interview process is to attend an information session. If you are interested in this volunteer opportunity please choose an information date and contact the Court Accompaniment Coordinator at court@vasoc.com or 613-238-2762 ext 228.

Volunteers Can
expect to:
- Respond to police, and emergency referrals.
- Carry a pager while on call.
- Attend all referrals with a VASOC partner.
- Have access to a VASOC team leader to assist with assessment and procedures 24 hours
a day.
- Debrief with a team leader.
- Attend monthly meetings, ongoing training and special events.
- Have an opportunity to become a VASOC team leader.
- Provide phone follow-up.
- Make new friends, learn new skills, and make a valuable contribution to the community.
With Victim Consent,Volunteers Can:
- Attend on site, at the victim's home, at the
hospital, at the police station or at
a location determined to be a safe setting
by the police, fire and/or emergency
personal.
- Listen with complete confidentiality, understanding
and respect.
- Validate feelings of vulnerability, fear, violation,
anger and shock.
- Encourage empowerment by supporting individuals
to regain control of the situation.
- Dispel blame
- Provide language interpretation of victim's
choice.
- Offer practical support.
- Provide information on the services offered
by other community agencies and services.
How to become a Volunteer:
- Contact the VASOC office to obtain an application
- Attend an information session
- Come to the office for a interview
- Agree o a security clearance investigation and personal reference check.
- Attend a minimum of 40 hours of training (provided by VASOC) as determined by the Attorney
General
- Commit to a minimum of 32 hours a month on
call and attend regularly scheduled
meetings and ongoing training.

- Have access to the Court Accompaniment Coordinator to assist with assessment and procedures.
- Debrief with the Court Accompaniment Coordinator.
- Attend monthly meetings, ongoing training and special events.
- Have an opportunity to become a VASOC member.
- Make new friends, learn new skills, and make a valuable contribution to the community.

- Provide information on the services offered by other community agencies and services.

- Agree to a security clearance investigation and personal reference check.
- Attend a minimum of 40 hours of training provided by VASOC.
- Commit to a minimum of 24 hours a month on call and attend regularly scheduled meetings and ongoing training.
