Supportlink
Supportlink is a joint initiative of the Ontario Ministry of the Attorney General Victim Services Secretariat, Ericsson Communications and Rogers/At & T Wireless. Supportlink offers personalized safety planning, referrals for ongoing support and a 911 cell phone to qualified individuals.
Supportlink is offered to high risk individuals who have been victimized by domestic violence, sexual assault and/or stalking. All individuals qualify for safety planning, regardless of their ability to meet the criteria for a 911 cell phone. A small list of the qualifications for a 911 cell phone include: the individual does not already own a cell phone, the individual is not living with the accused and that the individual is willing to have ongoing contact with the Supportlink Coordinator.
Specific objectives of the program are:
- To reduce the negative impact of victimization by providing safety planning, emotional support and immediate referrals to community services, if necessary.
- To help the individual who has been victimized regain a sense of personal control.
- To enable the individual who has been victimized cope with their immediate situation.
- To engage in advocacy for individuals who have been victimized.
- To share resources and knowledge with other community agencies about safety planning.
